One of the major MNC had a large Sybase setup which was running on ASE version 12.5 with 1500+ concurrent business users. Due to the Security requirement, management decision was made to go for platform change as well as supported hardware change. Since the newer hardware and Operating system were not compatible with the obsolete Sybase ASE version 12.5, it was decided to upgrade Sybase as well to the supported 15.7 version.
Our team was entrusted with the task to upgrade all Sybase servers to version 15.7, which our team completed successfully in all environments from Dev to Production.
There were initial performance issues and service degradation, which was overcome by implementing the suggested changes in ASE configuration settings in the newer version. Performance was ensured by spending a considerable amount of time testing the existing SQLs with the new optimizer, taking advantage of newer capabilities properly (e.g. partitions) and performing some SQL rewrites to tune the SQL queries and Stored procedures.
For a large cement manufacturing factory located in remote village area in India, the challenge was to manage their inventory, production planning, procurement of raw material and delivery of finished goods. With over 1000+ inventory items and warehouse spread over 2 acres it was all haywire to large extent. Company senior management team being miles away in Mumbai HQ was expecting production to go smooth and get real-time reports. The material suppliers on other hand were expecting detailed purchase order and a better payout performance for their invoices.
Existing system in place were having challenges to manage with multiple software applications, multiple entries of same data in different system, non-integrated or non-compatible system caused integration between systems. Different table structures and data elements restricted creating detailed report.
Our experts deployed a team of 2 members to study the existing system and the expected process at the factory. They also captured management expectations and supplier requirements to include in their design.
Sybase SQL server was chosen and using DWB and RWB (Data Work Bench and Report Work Bench) the entire system was built from scratch on Unix platform using Client-Server architecture. The application was installed on the mini-computer installed on the computer/IT department of the factory. System was used in a multi-user environment across factory with distributed network for gate entry, store-entry, production requisition, accounts-payable and management reporting.
Existing data were migrated out from legacy systems, restructured, cleansed and then imported to the new system to provide reporting based on past and current data.
Project was successfully completed to client satisfaction. Overall period for system design and development was about 10 months with a team size of 4-5 people including system architect, DBAs and developers.
One of the major American Multi-national investment bank and financial services company based in NYC invited us as consultants and engaged us to help resolve a major performance bottle-neck in one of their Sybase application.
The application was locally developed for NYC team which later got implemented across 7 countries and within short period the usage picked up round the clock with several users logging at once. Certain core screens and forms used to take about 15-30 min to open and at times system got freeze.
The issue diagnosed by our team was in two critical areas of table-locking and process-threads that was resolved within two weeks of time that brought huge relief to all the users across the globe. Once the major issue was resolved, a detail project plan was conceived by our consulting team and handed over to the client’s IT team with long-term recommendations and suggestions.
Our client, an US Based MNC in International Global Insurance Company was using a set of 2 applications with 3000+ users world-wide. Their management decided to move these applications on urgent basis from their current Data Center in US to another Data Center within US itself.
Our expert team took the challenge and formed a combined team from onsite and offshore centers. The execution involved setting up Dev, Test and Prod environment on the new Data center and migrating both applications and its data.
Entre project was successfully completed in less than 60 calendar days, with both applications up and running on new environment and handed over to client and their users for business as usual.

We deploy our experienced consultant to study the business scenario, pain areas, document and share with client team. This also helps build a rapport among all stakeholders from client team and our team.
Our execution team will then start taking up tasks that are pre-requisite for the project and complete them. This helps tie any loose ends and fill the cracks before the major task begins. Example verify and setup backup / recovery tasks, prepare/update fresh list of database objects so we don’t miss them in plan, prepare parallel system as needed to keep business running as we perform the upgrade or migration till completion.
Typically, our plans would be arranged in multiple phases so that it can be easily monitored, completed and then proceeded to the next phase. Our execution team will arrive at the site or off-shore labs fully equipped with their tools, checklists, utilities and start the work as per Phase 1 plan. Once completed, the team coordinator verifies and gets client consent and moves to next phase.
Once execution is completed, the system moves to User Acceptance Test (UAT) mode, where business users will login and ensure the new upgraded/migrated system is as per business needs or as per agreed document and expected results.
Move or perform tasks for Live environment, ensure the tasks are completed within the defined downtime window, monitor each step/phase and keep the stakeholders informed.
We provide 1/3/6 months warranty and support as part of our agreement with client, depending upon the nature and criticality of project.
